The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh on August 27, 2026, issued a circular regarding Strict compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules/Regulations made thereunder by all Food Business Operators in the UT of Ladakh.
The following has been stated: -
•All Food Business Operators (FBOs) in the UT of Ladakh are directed to ensure strict and continuous compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Rules/Regulations made thereunder.
•FBOs must obtain and prominently display a valid FSSAI Licence/Registration and comply with prescribed hygiene, sanitation, food storage, handling, and Food Safety Management System requirements.
•Food handlers must maintain personal hygiene and undergo appropriate food safety training, while expired, adulterated, unsafe or sub-standard food must not be stored, processed or sold.
•Pre-packaged food must comply with applicable labelling and display requirements, and FBOs must cooperate with inspections, sampling and directions issued by Food Safety Officers.
•Non-compliance with the prescribed requirements may attract penalties and enforcement action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
